Following trials during the Development Centre (DC) programme, squads are selected and players are invited to attend the Academy Centre (AC) for further training.  The AC is the next step on England Hockey's "Player Pathway" and consists of ten training sessions held on Friday evenings, together with a series of inter-county match days known as the Southern Counties Championship. The sessions are high intensity, challenging and are designed to build on existing hockey skills at an individual level and promote team play.  The sessions usually last for 90 minutes.   Training dates for 2020 are:-

  • 24th January (under 16 & under 17 only)
  • 7th February
  • 14th February
  • 28th February
  • 6th March
  • 13th March
  • 27th March
  • 1st May
  • 15th May (under 13, 14, 15 only)

During 2020, inter-county match day as as follows:

  • 1st March (under 16 & 17 only)
  • 15th March
  • 29th March
  • 19th April (under 13 & 14 development squads)
  • 3rd May
  • 17th May (under 13, 14, 15 only)

A small number of players who show the requisite levels of attitude and ability during the Academy Centre programme will be nominated to attend the next step on the England Hockey Player Pathway, the Performance Centre (PC) where they will attend trials and compete for places in regional squads.
